Crypto Withdrawal Suspended, Pending or Disabled: What to Do
If a crypto withdrawal is suspended, pending or disabled, first establish whether the exchange has actually sent the transaction to the blockchain. Save the withdrawal record, check the exact network and any transaction hash, and contact the provider responsible for the stage where processing stopped. A delayed withdrawal does not by itself prove that funds are lost, but repeated unexplained delays require a documented escalation. Do not submit another withdrawal until you understand what happened to the first one.
What the Withdrawal Status Can Tell You
A disabled withdrawal button, a pending request and a confirmed transfer are different problems. Status labels are not standardised across exchanges: use the platform’s own explanation and the underlying transaction record.
| What you see | What to establish | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Withdrawals suspended or disabled | Is the restriction limited to one asset or network, or does it affect your account? | Official service notices and the account notification. |
| Pending or processing | Has the request remained inside the exchange, or has a transaction been broadcast? | Sending exchange; request the blockchain hash and processing stage. |
| On hold or under review | Does support require documents or a manual decision? | The existing support or compliance ticket. |
| Broadcast, awaiting confirmations | Is the transaction visible and unconfirmed on the correct network? | Explorer record and sending exchange. |
| Completed, but nothing received | Did the correct asset reach the correct address and meet the recipient’s crediting requirements? | Receiving platform once the transfer is verified. |
| Failed, rejected or cancelled | Was anything sent, and has the reserved balance been restored? | Withdrawal error details and sending exchange. |
For example, Kraken’s withdrawal-status guidance distinguishes internal processing from a transaction already broadcast. In its Classic interface, “Success” means one network confirmation; a receiving service may require more before crediting a deposit. These definitions are platform-specific, not universal deadlines or guarantees.
Find Out Whether the Funds Have Left the Exchange
Open the withdrawal history in the genuine application or website. Record the withdrawal ID, asset, amount, fee, selected network, destination address, memo or destination tag where relevant, submission time and current status. An internal withdrawal reference is not necessarily a blockchain transaction hash.
If a hash is available, check it in an explorer for that exact network. Confirm the transaction result and the transfer to your destination, not merely that a page exists for the hash. Token movements may appear in a separate transfer section, and a batched withdrawal can contain several recipients.
A “not found” result can mean the wrong explorer, a visibility delay or a transaction that was never broadcast. Ask the sender to confirm the network and broadcast status before drawing a conclusion. Transfers within the same platform may be internal ledger entries without a public blockchain hash.
Why a Withdrawal May Be Unavailable
An Asset or Network Is Temporarily Suspended
An exchange may pause a particular withdrawal route during maintenance, an upgrade or an operational incident. Check whether the notice covers your asset and selected network, and save its latest update. A general status page showing normal service does not exclude an account-specific restriction.
The Displayed Balance Is Not Fully Withdrawable
Depending on the platform and product, open orders, collateral commitments, staking exit periods or unsettled funding can affect the amount available to withdraw. Security changes, such as a password reset or a new withdrawal address, may also trigger a temporary hold. Ask which condition applies and whether there is a stated expiry; do not assume that every hold lasts 24 or 72 hours.
Transfer Information or Compliance Checks Are Incomplete
The EBA’s Travel Rule guidance explains how providers should identify missing or incomplete information accompanying crypto transfers and respond to it. A provider may request information about the sender, beneficiary or destination wallet. That is a possible reason for a review, not proof of the reason in your case.
Ask which fields or documents remain outstanding and how to submit them securely. Answer consistently with the actual transaction and ownership of the wallet. Never split transfers or use another person’s account to try to avoid a check.
The Receiving Service Has Not Credited the Deposit
If the transfer reached the correct address, the receiving platform may still be waiting for its confirmation threshold, checking deposit information or resolving a crediting issue. Unsupported networks, an incorrect token or a missing memo can require separate technical review. Successful blockchain execution alone does not establish that the recipient has credited your customer account.
Take These Steps Before Trying Again
Work through the checks in order. If you discover a withdrawal you did not authorise, contact the platform’s security team immediately and secure the account; do not treat it as a routine delay.
-
Save the Original Request
Export the withdrawal record and capture the status, error message and timestamp. Keep the original confirmation email and any later status changes.
-
Check Official Notices and Account Messages
Look for maintenance, a security hold, an incomplete confirmation step or a request for information. Access support through the verified application or website, not a social-media reply or sponsored search result.
-
Identify the Responsible Provider
Before broadcast, contact the sending exchange about processing. After a verified transfer to a receiving platform, ask that platform to investigate crediting. If the sender’s details do not match the chain record, send the discrepancy back to the sender.
-
Submit One Focused Ticket
Attach the identifiers and relevant evidence below. Ask for the processing stage, any action required from you and a specific next update. Keep follow-ups in the same thread unless instructed otherwise.
-
Set a Documented Follow-Up Point
Use the stated maintenance update, hold expiry or support response target. If that point passes without resolution, refer to it in writing and request escalation. There is no single waiting period suitable for every chain, exchange and compliance review.
What to Attach and What Each Item Proves
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Withdrawal receipt and account export | Links the request, asset, amount and fee to your account; shows whether funds were debited or reserved. |
| Hash, network and explorer record | Helps establish whether and where the transfer occurred, its result and confirmation status. |
| Recipient’s deposit instructions | Shows the required asset, network, address and memo or tag for comparison with the withdrawal. |
| Status notices and support history | Documents explanations, requests, promised updates and time already elapsed. |
| Requested verification documents | Addresses the specific identity, ownership or funding question holding up the review. Include only relevant material. |
Share documents only through verified channels. Never provide a seed phrase, private key, password, live two-factor authentication code or unrestricted remote access. A support team can investigate a withdrawal using records and identifiers without taking control of your wallet.
A Message You Can Send to Support
Subject: Withdrawal [ID] — confirm processing stage and next action
I requested a withdrawal of [amount and asset] on [date and time, UTC], using [network], to [destination address; memo/tag if applicable]. The current status is [exact wording]. The account shows [amount] as debited or reserved. My existing ticket is [reference].
Please confirm whether the transaction has been broadcast and, if so, provide the correct hash and network. If it has not, please identify the outstanding step, any information required from me and the next expected update. Please also confirm whether cancellation is available and how the reserved amount and fee would be handled.
I attach the withdrawal receipt, status screenshot and [relevant records]. If another team must review this, please route the case to that team and confirm the reference.
Can You Cancel, Retry or Choose Another Network?
Cancellation depends on the provider and processing stage. A cancellation request is not the same as a confirmed cancellation. Once a transaction is broadcast, do not assume the exchange can stop or reverse it; any network-specific replacement option must be assessed by whoever controls the sending transaction.
Before retrying, obtain confirmation that the original request cannot still execute and check that the balance has been released. Otherwise, both requests could eventually be processed. If the record says “failed” but the balance remains reserved, ask for reconciliation rather than submitting duplicates.
An alternative network is suitable only if both services support the exact asset on that network and the receiving instructions are correct. It does not resolve an existing withdrawal automatically or bypass an account restriction. Do not pay an unknown “accelerator”, tax collector or recovery agent to release the transfer.
When to Escalate a Delayed Withdrawal in the EU
Escalate when the provider misses its stated update, cannot explain which stage is unresolved, repeatedly asks for documents already accepted or leaves a failed withdrawal unreconciled. Request a technical or compliance review appropriate to the issue. If routine support produces no meaningful response, use the formal complaint channel for the legal entity serving your account.
Under Article 71 of MiCA, published by ESMA, in-scope crypto-asset service providers must accept complaints free of charge and maintain effective procedures for their prompt and fair handling. State the withdrawal ID, chronology, unanswered questions and requested remedy. Ask for acknowledgement and the applicable complaint response deadline; a complaint deadline is not a promise that funds will be released by that date.
If the complaint remains unresolved, identify the competent national authority and any dispute-resolution route available for that entity and service. A supervisory complaint can raise concerns about the provider’s conduct, but a regulator may not decide your individual compensation claim. For EEA countries outside the EU, check the applicable local framework and authority.

Mistakes That Make the Problem Harder to Resolve
- Calling every delay a blockchain problem. A general congestion notice does not establish what happened to your request. Ask the sender whether it has sent the transaction and, if not, which step remains outstanding.
- Treating a completed status as proof of receipt. Compare the actual transfer with the receiving service’s deposit instructions and crediting requirements.
- Opening multiple tickets with different accounts of events. This fragments the evidence. Maintain one chronology and correct errors explicitly in the existing thread.
- Changing networks because the address looks identical. Matching address formats do not establish compatibility. Confirm the supported network and asset with the recipient.
- Sending an extra payment to “unlock” the balance. Preserve the demand and verify it independently through official support; do not trust a private message or an unverified payment address.
What a Realistic Resolution Looks Like
The outcome may be completion after maintenance or review, cancellation and restoration of the available balance, or manual crediting by the receiving provider. A failed transfer may require a separate decision about fees. Some restrictions can continue while checks or legal constraints remain unresolved, and technical recovery from an unsupported destination may be unavailable.
Legal assistance becomes more useful where a substantial amount remains inaccessible, the provider disputes your entitlement, there are signs of insolvency or explanations remain contradictory after a formal complaint. A lawyer can assess the contractual claim, jurisdiction, evidence and any proportionate court application. Legal correspondence cannot guarantee release or make an irreversible transfer reversible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can I trade but not withdraw?
Trading access and withdrawal availability can be governed by different checks or balance requirements. Ask whether the restriction concerns the whole account, one asset, unsettled funding or a specific withdrawal request.
Should I wait until after the weekend?
Use the provider’s stated processing schedule and service notices rather than assuming weekends explain the delay. Manual review availability and blockchain processing are separate issues. An unauthorised withdrawal should be reported immediately.
Will adding more crypto pay the fee and clear the hold?
An additional deposit does not by itself clear a security or compliance restriction. For an exchange withdrawal, check the quoted fee and available balance in the official interface, then ask support about any specific shortfall before transferring more assets.
What if I entered the wrong memo or network?
If the request has not been sent, contact the sender immediately about cancellation. If it has been sent, give the receiving platform the hash and correct deposit details and ask whether recovery is supported. Recovery may be impossible or subject to a disclosed fee.
Will a failed withdrawal fee be refunded?
That depends on what happened and the provider’s terms. Ask separately about restoration of the withdrawal amount, any platform charge and any network fee already incurred. A failed status alone does not establish that every fee is refundable.
