Blockchain Tracing and Crypto Evidence Analysis

How we can help

P&P helps individuals and businesses establish what happened to cryptocurrency and prepare the evidence for a legal or compliance response. We analyse relevant transactions and supporting records, coordinate specialist blockchain tracing where required, and organise findings into a report for the intended recipient. Our support is designed for EU clients dealing with disputed transfers, suspected theft or fraud, and unexplained transaction histories.

When You Need a Clearer Account of the Transfers

Your situation What the analysis can address
Crypto left your wallet without your authorisation Document the transfers and assess the visible onward movement.
Payments went to a suspected investment scam Connect payment instructions with actual transfers and identify potential service-provider leads.
A company payment reached the wrong address Reconstruct the payment route alongside invoices, instructions and approval records.
An exchange questions an earlier transaction Examine the relevant history and supporting records to explain the transfer in context.
You already have a tracing report Review its supporting data, assumptions and gaps before commissioning further work.
Several wallets or networks appear in the case Assess which links can be established and where additional records or specialist analysis are needed.

Start with the Question the Report Must Answer

Before recommending a full trace, we establish whether you need to explain a transfer, identify a potential receiving service, document a loss or support an existing investigation. This determines the scope and whether the likely value of further analysis justifies its cost.

Europol’s report on tracing cryptocurrency flows describes how blockchain analysis and information held by service providers can support investigations. We assess which of those sources are available and relevant to your matter.

The agreed scope identifies the networks, starting transactions, period and reporting purpose. Any specialist work, report updates or additional networks are confirmed before that work begins.

What Your Evidence Package Contains

The report should let a reviewer follow the reasoning back to its sources. Depending on the agreed scope, P&P prepares or coordinates the following work and deliverables.

Work What we examine What you receive
Initial evidence review Transaction identifiers, account records and the reported incident A scope recommendation and list of missing evidence
Transaction reconstruction Relevant transfers, dates, assets, amounts and network information A transaction schedule and chronology
Flow analysis Supported links between transfers, wallets and services A visual flow map with underlying transaction references
Attribution assessment Available address labels and evidence linking activity to an entity Findings that explain the basis and limits of any proposed identification
Context and loss review Messages, payment instructions, ownership records and any returned funds An indexed evidence file linking the transfers to your account of events
Legal use assessment The intended recipient, relevant jurisdiction and further records needed A report summary and recommended next steps

Every Material Finding Needs a Basis

Observed data: the transactions and records directly reviewed, with their sources and collection dates.

Analytical conclusions: how connections or service labels were assessed, including assumptions and uncertainty.

Unresolved questions: information unavailable from the public blockchain or not established by the supplied evidence.

We identify the sources and methods used in the agreed analysis. Where a specialist contributes a technical report, its authorship, scope and limitations should be clear. A visual map is supported by transaction references and explanatory notes.

From Initial Identifiers to a Documented Analysis

01

Confirm the Starting Point

You: Share the incident summary and available transaction references.

P&P: Checks the relevant networks, amounts and intended use of the report.

Output: A preliminary assessment and proposed scope.

02

Assemble the Source Material

You: Provide original exports, correspondence and payment records.

P&P: Organises them, identifies conflicting information and requests missing items.

Output: An evidence index and a defined set of transactions for review.

03

Examine the Transaction Path

P&P: Analyses the agreed records and coordinates specialist tracing where needed.

You: Clarify which accounts or wallets you controlled and any legitimate transfers.

Output: Supported links, possible leads and points where the trail becomes uncertain.

04

Review the Findings in Context

P&P: Compares the transaction findings with the incident chronology and payment instructions.

You: Confirm factual details and any refunds or recovered amounts.

Output: The final report, supporting schedules and limitations.

05

Decide How to Use the Report

P&P: Assesses whether the findings support a provider notification, supplementary police report or further legal review.

You: Approve any additional mandate.

Output: The agreed handover material or an explanation of why further expenditure is not justified.

The sequence may change if an urgent report or preservation request is appropriate. Scope depends on the evidence, networks, transaction volume, amount at stake, jurisdictions and any existing investigation.

Preparing Findings for Use in Europe

Eurojust’s Cybercrime Judicial Monitor on cooperation with crypto-asset service providers highlights the importance of explaining tracing methods and reliability, alongside obtaining information from providers. We prepare the evidence with its intended recipient in mind.

An exchange, investigator and court may require different supporting material. If court use is contemplated, we assess local evidential requirements and whether a separately instructed expert is needed. The applicable authority or court determines the report’s evidential weight and admissibility.

A provider lead can support a targeted notification or request to preserve records. Disclosure of customer information, restrictions on assets and their return require the appropriate provider process or legal authority.

Evidence to Provide at Each Stage

For the Free Preliminary Assessment

Send your country, the approximate amount and asset, the date of the incident and a short explanation of what happened. Include a transaction hash or wallet address with the network, if known, plus the relevant platform or website. Tell us whether you need the report for a provider, police, a lawyer or an internal review.

An incomplete file is enough to ask about scope. The preliminary assessment is not a completed tracing investigation.

For the Full Analysis

Material What it helps establish
Transaction hashes, networks and token details Which transfers and assets are being examined, avoiding confusion between networks or similarly named tokens.
Wallet and exchange exports The activity before and after the incident and links to accounts you used.
Bank statements and purchase confirmations How crypto was acquired and the fiat payments connected with the case.
Original messages, emails and payment instructions Who requested a payment, what was represented and how the recipient address was supplied.
Contracts, invoices and ownership records The purpose of the payment and your basis for claiming the assets or loss.
Screenshots, URLs and account notices What a platform displayed and when; these complement the underlying records.
Earlier reports and case references What has already been analysed or reported and which issues remain open.

Keep original files where available and record when and how they were obtained. Share working copies, preserve timestamps and identify any corrections or annotations. We document the material received and flag gaps that could affect later use.

If the Incident Is Still Developing

Europol’s crime reporting guidance directs victims to local or national police. You can report promptly and supplement the evidence later; commissioning a private report should not delay an urgent notification to the genuine provider or authorities.

P&P will never need your seed phrase, private key, exchange password, 2FA code or full remote access to your device.

What the Findings Can Support

Analysis may establish a transaction sequence, identify a possible service-provider contact or clarify which additional records are needed. It may also show that the available trail ends without a useful next step.

An address label does not establish the identity of its user. Transfers into a custodial service may require internal account records to follow further, while mixers, privacy features and movement between networks can limit reliable conclusions. A visible balance does not prove that assets are legally attributable to your loss or available for recovery.

Results depend on the available data, transaction complexity, timing, jurisdiction and provider cooperation. P&P cannot guarantee identification of a person, recovery of assets or an exact timeframe.

This service focuses on transaction analysis and evidence preparation. Recovery proceedings, a broader AML documentation response or lost wallet access require a separate scope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a wallet address enough to start?

It can be, especially if you also know the network and approximate transaction date. A transaction hash and explanation of your connection to the payment help define the review more accurately.

Can you identify who owns the receiving wallet?

Analysis may reveal a potential service or other lead. Establishing who controlled an account can require provider records or further lawful investigation beyond the public blockchain.

Can you examine transfers across different blockchains?

We assess the relevant networks and available data before accepting the scope. Each proposed connection needs support; a similar amount or close timestamp alone may not establish continuity.

Will the report recover or freeze my crypto?

The report can support a request or legal assessment, but it does not itself freeze or return assets. Those steps depend on the relevant provider, authority or court process.

Can you review a report I already paid for?

Yes. We can assess the disclosed methodology, transaction references and conclusions. We identify what can be checked from the supplied material before recommending further analysis.

How long does an analysis take?

We estimate preparation time after reviewing the networks, transaction volume and records. Any later monitoring or update has a defined scope and reporting period.

How is the price agreed?

Following the free preliminary assessment, we propose a fee for the defined analysis and deliverables. Additional networks, specialist work, report updates or legal submissions are priced separately where required.

Flexible fee structures

Clear Scope Before Engagement

The fee model is proposed after the preliminary assessment and depends on scope, jurisdiction and recovery route.

Fixed Fee

A defined price for an agreed scope of legal or compliance work.

Staged Fees

Separate fees for assessment, submissions, negotiations and escalation.

Fixed Fee + Success Component

A fixed part combined with a result-based component where appropriate.

Available models depend on the circumstances of the case and applicable professional rules.
